Information from Individuals 13 Years of Age or Older
Information from Children Under 13 Years of Age

The National Resource Center on ADHD: A Program of CHADD ("CHADD/NRC"), owner of help4adhd.org ("Web Site"), cares about your privacy. This Privacy Policy sets forth how we handle information we obtain from you and learn about you when you visit our Web Site.

Some of our pages contain links to other sites. These other sites may have practices different than ours. Visitors to linked sites should consult those sites' privacy notices, as we have no control over information that is submitted to, or collected by, these third parties. This Privacy Policy addresses the following:

  • The information we collect;
  • The choices that are available to you regarding how the information is used and to whom it is disseminated;
  • Your rights to access and correct or update your personally identifiable information; and
  • Our pledge to have reasonable security procedures that are in place to protect the loss, misuse, or alteration of information under our control.

Our Web Site is intended for general audiences and deals with information affecting children. Because we understand that our entire Web Site may be appealing to children, we seek to comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 ("COPPA"). This policy addresses information collected from individuals 13 years of age or older, and information collected from children under the age of 13.

INFORMATION FROM INDIVIDUALS 13 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER

What Information May Be Collected

CHADD/NRC collects two types of information about you when you visit our site: personal information (including, by way of example only, your name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address) and non-personal, aggregate information (such as information regarding the pages on our site that you have visited and your IP address).

Personally Identifiable Information

The only personally identifying information that we collect and store about you is the information that you choose to provide to us. For example, if you submit a question online, we will use the personally identifiable information you provide so that we may respond according to your preferred method of contact. If you register with our site, we will gather your personally identifiable information in order to sign you up for our services. We also may use the information you provide us to send you information that we think you might be interested in, and about the products and services of our partners. If you choose to complete our optional demographic questionnaire or other survey instrument that collects information such as race, ethnicity, gender, etc., this information will not be stored with personally identifiable information. Such demographic information will be gathered and reported in the aggregate only. Your choice to complete or not complete such questionnaires will have no bearing on the quality of service you receive from us.

Non-Personally Identifiable Information

We collect and use non-personally identifiable information about you in the following ways:

  • Cookies: A "cookie" is a small text file that a Web site can place on your computer's hard drive. The cookie transmits this information back to the Web site's computer, which, generally speaking, is the only computer that can read it. CHADD/NRC may use cookies to help us recognize you when you come back to our site. We may also use cookies to help us track traffic on our site. This information may be aggregated in an anonymous manner. This will help us better tailor our site and provide you with offers that we think may be of interest to you. We do not link cookie information to personally identifiable information.
  • Referrers, IP Addresses and Other Non-Personal Information: CHADD/NRC may collect information through "referrers," IP addresses and various environmental variables. A "referrer" is information the Web browser passes along to the CHADD/NRC Web server that references the URL from which you came. The "IP address" is a number used by computers on the network to identify your computer so that data can be transmitted to you. "Environmental variables" include, among other things, the domain from which you access the Internet, the time you accessed our Web site, the type of Web browser and operating system or platform used, the Internet address of the Web site you left to visit CHADD/NRC, the names of the pages you visit while at our Web site and the Internet address of the Web site you then visit. We may collect all of this information to allow us to detect broad demographic trends, to provide information tailored to your interests and to enhance your experience on the CHADD/NRC's Web Site.

Profiling

We do not merge personally identifiable information with non-personally identifiable information. We may, however, develop a non-identifiable profile of you based on the pages within our site that you visit.

How Information May Be used

CHADD/NRC will not sell, rent, loan, trade, or lease personal information collected at this site. Because CHADD/NRC is administered by CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder), and receives funding and other services from parties such as the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), we - by necessity - must share information with our partners. If you do not wish for CHADD/NRC to share your information, you may opt out of the sharing, but this might mean that you are unable to take advantage of services on our Web Site. Organizations with whom we do share your information are prohibited from using that information for any purpose other than for a limited stated purpose. If you wish to opt out of CHADD/NRC sharing your information, send an e-mail to nrc@chadd.org.

Third Party Links

This Web site may contain links to other sites. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PRIVACY PRACTICES OF OTHER SITES. We encourage our users to read the privacy statements of each and every Web site that they visit. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected when you visit CHADD/NRC's Web Site.

CHOICE

Notification of Changes

If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on our Web Site so you will always be aware of what information we collect, how we use it and under what circumstances we disclose it. If at any point we decide to use personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time it was collected, we will notify you by e-mail. You will then have a choice regarding whether we use your information in this different manner. We will use information in accordance with the privacy policy in effect at the time that the information was collected.

Choices Available to the User, Including Access & Accuracy

CHADD/NRC provides the following choices regarding the use of your information.

  • You may set your browser to: (1) inform you when cookies are being set before a cookie is stored; (2) not accept cookies at all; and (3) erase all cookies from your hard drive. However, if you choose to reject or erase cookies, your ability to navigate our Web Site may be limited.
  • You may choose not to provide CHADD/NRC with any contact information. However, if you opt out in this way, we will be unable to respond to your requests, sign you up as a CHADD/NRC registered user, or allow you to participate in other CHADD/NRC Web Site services that require personal information. Additionally, your ability to navigate our site may be limited.
  • If you would like to opt out of receiving further information from CHADD/NRC or its partners, send an e-mail to nrc@chadd.org. If you e-mail us, please include your name and e-mail address in the body of the e-mail and reference "Remove" on the subject line.
  • If you would like to change or modify information you have previously provided us, please send a detailed e-mail to nrc@chadd.org.
  • If you have any questions about this privacy policy or the practices of our Web site, please contact nrc@chadd.org.

You may elect to not have your information shared. If you do not wish for us to share your information with any unrelated third parties, send an e-mail to nrc@chadd.org. Do NOT use this address for general inquiry questions about AD/HD. Such inquiries will be discarded and will not receive a reply. Inquiries about AD/HD should be sent using the online reference form found by clicking on "Ask a question about AD/HD" found on every page of this Site.

INFORMATION FROM CHILDREN UNDER 13 YEARS OF AGE

What Information May Be Collected

Personally Identifiable Information

The CHADD/NRC Web site does not collect personally identifiable information from children. However, some general sections of the CHADD/NRC Web site do collect personal information when users register with our site, submit questions, or request information from CHADD/NRC. Because we recognize that children under the age of 13 may wish to use particular services of our site, we have made the site COPPA-compliant in the following ways:

  • Site Registration: In order to register with the CHADD/NRC site, a user must verify that he/she is at least 13 years of age. Individuals under 13 years of age will not be permitted to register at this Site.
  • Reference Function: In order to ask a question online, a user will be required to provide certain personally identifiable information, which may include his or her name, address, phone number, and e-mail address. We also ask inquirers to provide information on their interests. This information is optional. If the individual requesting the membership is under the age of 13, he/she may be allowed to ask a question; however, this information is retained for this one-time use only and is discarded after the question has been responded to.

We may collect all of this information to allow us to detect broad demographic trends, to provide information tailored to your interests and to enhance your experience on the CHADD/NRC Web Site.

Profiling

We do not merge personally identifiable information with non-personally identifiable information. We may, however, develop a non-identifiable profile of you based on the pages within our site that you visit.

How Information May Be Used

Personally identifiable information collected from children will be used to respond to user requests or to provide children with information requested on a one-time-only basis, such as when a child submits a question. Personal information collected to comply with a child's one time request will be discarded after CHADD/NRC has responded to the child's request. Non-personally identifying information will be used to help us improve and update our site based on recorded use.

Because the CHADD/NRC is administered by CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention-deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder), and receives funding and other services from parties such as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), we, by necessity, must share information with our partners.

Third Party Links

This Web Site may contain links to other sites. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PRIVACY PRACTICES OF OTHER SITES. Please read the privacy policies of all Web sites to determine the Web sites' information collection and use policies. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected when you visit the CHADD/NRC Web Site.

SECURITY

We take every precaution to protect your information from inadvertent disclosure and intrusion by third parties, and host our Web Site on a dedicated server with significant firewall and virus protection software. If you have any questions about the security at our Web Site, you can send an e-mail to nrc@chadd.org.
